The processing by Robert Gendler for this composite image of M31 occurred in multiple stages,
each stage requiring the matching of disparate image data
from different instruments and vastly different focal lengths using RegiStar. In the early stages, professional
space and ground-based data required registration to the same image scale. In the later stages, the exquisite
detail of the professional data was matched with superior but much lower image-scale amateur data.
The result was a well-integrated, coherent image combining the best of the professional and amateur worlds.
